Organ Transplant In India:- Organ Transplant The procedure where the organ is taken from another living being in order to replace the diseased organ by the healthy organ that functions properly. The transplanted organs are those organs that cannot be treated with the help of any medical drugs or with any kind of surgeries. The different organs that can be transplanted are kidneys, intestine, lungs, pancreas, heart and liver. The different tissue that can be both transplanted and donated are bone marrow, skin, heart, middle ear, tendons and the valves.
A left venticular assist device (LVAD) is one of the most common electromechanical tools used to assist heart patients. The left ventricle is a large, muscular chamber of the heart that pumps blood out to the body. An LVAD is a battery-operated, mechanical pump-type device that is surgically implanted when the heart can’t work effectively on its own.
Heart failure often develops because the heart has been damaged by a heart attack, or as a result of conditions such as cardiomyopathy (a disease of the heart muscle). Patients who have a very severe heart failure and can’t be treated with medications or other interventions may be considered for a heart transplant. An LVAD can quite literally be a lifesaver for a patient on the donor list.
Lung transplant ( Organ Transplant ) is usually recommended in the cases of cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Patients suffering from these type of lung-related disorders need to get lung transplants at the right time before it’s too late. Before deciding the type of the lung transplant, the team of doctors ensures that the patient opts for a healthy lifestyle. In this way, the body of the recipient builds a better immunity along with the successful acceptance of the donor’s lungs.
A liver transplant ( Organ Transplant ) is a surgical procedure to remove a diseased liver and replace it with a healthy liver from a donor. Most liver transplant operations use livers from deceased donors, though a liver may also come from a living donor.
The number of people waiting for new livers is much larger than the number of available livers, so liver transplant is reserved for people who are critically ill. Some people receive a liver transplant right away, while others spend many months waiting for a liver transplant.
The cornea is the transparent anterior portion of the eyes. The clear dome-shaped layer that covers the anterior or front part of the eyes. It helps to focus on the vision. In Cornea transplant or corneal graft; the tissue or graft is taken from a recently died donor who had no disease or any other factors that can cause damage to the grafted tissue (of the recipient). An ophthalmologist performs corneal transplant surgery.
A kidney transplant ( Organ Transplant ) surgery occurs when your kidney gets damaged or weak. The diseased kidney will then need a replacement which will help your body to work normally. The surgery is done by replacing a diseased kidney with a healthy kidney from a donor. The organ can come from a deceased organ donor and also from a living donor. Relatives, especially family members can donate one of their kidneys to the patient after a full and thorough checkup. When a donor is a living one then the transplant is called a living transplant. One healthy kidney is enough to live a normal and healthy life.
Bone marrow is the soft fatty tissue inside some of our bones including hip bones & thigh bones. They facilitate the creation of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets of the blood. Bone marrow hosts immature cells called stem cells that are capable of rapidly multiplying and producing new blood cells.
The bone marrow may be damaged or destroyed by diseases, infections or during chemotherapy. The solution to restore the production of healthy bone marrow and blood cells is, to replace bone marrow that has been damaged or destroyed. The medical procedure involves transplanting the healthy blood stem cells into the patient’s body, where they multiply to produce new blood cells and promote the growth of new healthy bone marrow. Prior to the procedure your immune system will be deactivated through medicines to avoid rejection of transplanted cells.
